"Genius without education is like silver in the mine."

children to sell candy or gift wrap, we are asking you to
donate to our Annual Fund to help us continue to thrive.
Every penny that you give will go directly to programs that
benefit all 374 students at Stevens Elementary.
Our goal for 2011-2012 is $105,000!

About Our School
Stevens Elementary was founded in 1906 in the Capitol Hill
neighborhood. Today, Stevens has become a much sought-after
school and an active member in the community. It serves 374
students in grades K-5. Stevens is truly diverse. It is
47% non-white and about 32% of the student body qualifies
for free and reduced lunch. As an English Language Learner
(ELL) target school, 26% of our students are from
non-English speaking families. Stevens strives for academic
excellence, embraces diversity, and teaches social
responsibility.
Where does the money go?
Our PTA funds:
-
Instructional Assistants - who allow classroom teachers to have more time with
our kids, reduce instructor-to-student ratios and make it possible for teachers
to focus individually on each student
-
School Counselor - the PTA funds Mr. Marcos to support and build our community,
allowing teachers to focus more on teaching.
-
Social Studies Enrichment - the PTA funds our History Teacher extraordinaire,
Mary Anne Christy, who does 1-2 giant modules for every classroom making history
and civics come alive.
-
Vocal Music - the PTA funds music teacher Mr. Edd Key for all the grades, also
making possible his fabulous school-wideconcerts.
-
Art In the Classroom - the PTA funds Michelle Martine (our
"Artist-in-Residence") to enrich the presence of art instruction in all the
classrooms.
Our 11/12 fundraising goal is $105,000. This will allow us
to continue these critical programs and help keep Stevens a great school.
