Welcome to Room 203

WELCOME TO MS. WILSON'S FIRST GRADE - ROOM 203

Welcome

Welcome to Mrs. Wilson's First Grade Class! It is a honor to be selected as your child's teacher. I look forward to a wonderful world of learning and exploration this year. My goal is to provide the ultimate educational opportunity for your child.

Academics

First Grade is an exciting opportunity for your child to refine and build on their Reading skills. The Curriculum and grade level expectations are based on the Washington State Essential Learning Requirements. The First Grade Level Expectations & Requirements can be viewed at www.seattleschools.org

Homework

Homework is a wonderful way to be active in your child's education. I will send home weekly assignments that will extend your child's academic learning. Homework will be sent home every Monday. I ask that you return the completed homework the following Monday. The first grade staff will collaborate and all students will be given the same homework opportunities. Homework is a required part of Stevens Elementary. It will foster creativity, introduce new knowledge, and reinforce skills. Please return required homework each and every Monday.

Research shows that spending twenty minutes a day reading to your child will increase their success in school. A "Stevens Elementary Reading Calendar"  is sent home once a month. I ask that you spend twenty minutes a day reading with your child. Please record this on the monthly calendar and return it on the last day of the month. The entire school participates in this event and your child has an opportunity to win prizes throughout the year. Library books need to be returned every Wednesday.

Parent Volunteers

I greatly enjoy having parents volunteer and help in the classroom. If you are able to assist in the classroom please feel free to contact me. I also encourage grandparents, aunts, uncles, and other family members to volunteer. Parent volunteers give students a learning advantage to help individualize the instruction. It is a wonderful way to personalize your child's education and advance their learning. If you are unable to volunteer during school hours, I have several opportunities and projects that can be completed at home. I believe that a key to a child's success is the active participation and partnership between teacher and parent. I would like to thank my INCREDIBLE parent volunteer support already in place. Please feel free to contact me if you would like to volunteer. You can email me at glwilson@seattleschools.org
