Welcome
Welcome to Room 205!
Academics
Reading, writing, math, science, and
social studies are the core of the
curriculum. The reading curriculum is
Pegusus, Junior Great Books, and Literature
Circles. Writing is part of everything else
we do plus individual story writing.
The math curriculum is Everyday Math and is
a scripted curriculum provided by the
District that covers all strands of math
simutaneously. It spirals to meet the needs
of all levels of students through
individual work, group work, and many games.
Science kits are provided by the District.
We also study frogs and toads, bats, and the
Amazon rainforest. Second Grade cultural
focus is Latin America. A Mexican
artist works with us on projects
connected to Dia de Muertos. The
heritages of all the classmates also becomes
an area of study.
Homework
Seattle School District requires 20
minutes of homework every night and 20
minutes of reading. The homework is
spelling practice and some form of math. The
spelling list comes home on Monday and is
good for two weeks. Sentences are written
each week to show understanding of the
words. The sentences are due on Friday.Often
the math homework is games that relate to
the math we are doing in class. Your
child will have a Reading Log that is to be
signed every night. It will be in
their Take Home Folder along with their
Daily Gazette which is a review of what we
did that day. They are to read this to you
and have you sign it so I know that they
read it to you.
Projects
My curriculum is mostly project based.
Attendance
Attendance is taken at 9:20 am every
morning unless the office announces that a
bus is late. Please check in the
